Gravesen has made
an impression on the players: There was a lot of hope about him
and he didnīt disappoint us. Owen summed up in a press
conference the impressions made by the Danish player. The number
11 player ruled out any discomfort about Madrid: I just want
to score goals and play in this Club. He said of the number of
goals he would like to score: It would be a very good season if
I score 20 goals. And he praised Luxemburgo: He communicates
very well, he talks a lot with the players and we know what he
wants
-How do you
find Gravesenīs debut?
-It was very nice to see his debut with Real Madrid, because
thatīs what happened to me not long ago. Itīs a very special
feeling and the reactions of the fans was very good. I great
hopes about him and he didnīt disappoint me: he made passes, he
kept up the rhythm of the game, he played in a simple but very
positive way.
- What is he like in the changing room?
-Arriving is always difficult because of problems with the
language though he already knows some words. Heīs that kind of
person, he gets along very well with the people. In England we
played for rival teams but we were always very close and we knew
that he was always joking in the changing room. And as soon as
he learns Spanish he will also do it here.
-You went through his situation not long time ago, what are
the priorities of a new player just arrived at Real Madrid?
-Thereīs not only one priority but many. I have talked with him
but I donīt know if heīs married, if he has children
maybe his
situation is very different to mine. I have a small daughter and
for me it was important to have a house. To handle the language
is fundamental. These were my priorities, but I īm not Thomasīs
priorities are. We know how to play football, so thatīs not the
complicated bit, but regarding the rest of the things it depends
on each person. I can say that Gravesen is a good player and
thatīs the important thing.
Are you surprised with the average of goals you have scored
considering the minutes played?
-It helps to play with such good players and it doesnīt matter
if you play one minute or the whole game you know that there
will be at least one opportunity to score. I donīt think itīs
strange the average of goals I have scored, because I have
always scored many goals. Iīm not surprised about it. If Iīd
played more minutes, I would probably have scored more goals but
Iīm very happy with the number of goals I scored. If I got 20
goals, it would be a good season for me.
-Do you think itīs unfair not to play more minutes taking
into account your effectiveness?
-When you talk about Real Madrid, you are talking about very
good players in all the positions. Ronaldo deserves his position
within the team because heīs creating goals. You always ask me
the same question and I always give you the same answer. I try
to do my work and take advantage of the opportunities I find. I
had a period of six or seven games when I was playing on the
initial line-up. Of course I like to play and I donīt enjoy it
when Iīm on the bench, but the only thing I can do is to keep on
working.
-Can Ronaldo and you play together?
-I played with Ronaldo during my debut because Raúl was injured.
I remember that I gave him a pass for a goal. We have played
together after that time and both of us have scored. And we have
also played together with Raúl. I have the feeling that I can
play with anybody. You just need time to adapt to the other. I
understand that the style of Ronaldo and my style are a little
bit different. But I donīt want people to think that I just want
to play with Ronaldo, I have also played with Raúl. An elite
footballer must have the capacity to adapt his play to any
fellow player.
-Why are there games, such as the game against Valladolid,
when you find it hard to score goals and create opportunities
for goals?
-The game against Valladolid was complicated for everybody. The
coach left out many regular players and itīs logical for the
team not to play as usual and because of this, there are less
opportunities for goals. If Ronaldo, Figo, Zidane and the other
players arenīt on the pitch, itīs very complicated to play at
the same level than when they are there. Itīs obvious that itīs
hard to replace them.
-Do the team feel the influence of Luxemburgo?
-He seems very good. We have started doing lot of physicial
training, because we must recover our best form. He communicates
very well, he talks a lot with the players and we know what he
wants. We are working on the structure of the team and we are
very aware of our role within it. The results are being very
good and we hope to keep on like this.
-People say that in Madrid there are untouchable players, do
you think that with Luxemburgo you are going to have more
opportunities that with the previous coaches?
-I think that all the coaches are similar and I donīt think
there are untouchable players in this team. I donīt think itīs
true what people say. Iīm very happy with my performance. I
started as substitute, both with Camacho and García Remón, and I
have played more and more, gradually. With Luxemburgo I have to
start from zero. The fans and the President have seen me play
but if I donīt play well from now on, I donīt think Luxemburgo
is going to watch past games on video. So what matters is to do
things well from now on because otherwise I wonīt have
opportunities.
-In England it has been written that there are teams
interested in signing you up even though as a transfer.
-I want to improve my situation here. I want to be a regular
player because Iīm not the kind of person that suits staying on
the bench. I have always been like this and I always want more.
Itīs inevitable to have that kind of thing published when a
player is not playing but they are the usual topics of the
Press. My name has been related to different clubs because I
havenīt played much. But my only objective is to stay here, to
score goals and play for Real Madrid, thatīs what I want.
-What do you think about the signing of Morientes by
Liverpool?
Itīs a very good singing for Liverpool and for the player,
because the fans are very passionate and they are eager to win
titles. Morientes is a great footballer and we are sad about his
departure but for Liverpool his arrival is a good thing.
